Exceptional opening hours in December and in January
The Gold Museum is closed in December on Independence Day 6.12., during the annual cleaning 7.-8.12. and on Christmas holidays 25.12.-26.12., and in January on New Year’s Day 1.1. Otherwise we are open during normal winter opening hours Mon-Fri 10-16.
A Surprise in the middle of Wilderness
Tankavaara is home for the only international museum in the world displaying past and present of gold panning and prospecting. The basic exhibition presents the history of gold prospecting in Lapland. The Golden World – International Gold History presents over twenty countries all over the world. Welcome!

The employment of Museum Director Teresa Töntsi has ended on 31.10.2023. Hanna Mattila, the Head of Collections, takes the place of Interim Museum Director from 1.11.2023.
